Review of Transcendent Man (2009) by Markus I — 26 Apr 2011
An interesting, thought-provoking summary of the life and thought of Ray Kurzweil, mainly in his own words, which, unlike his books (which I'm a big fan of), really takes time to establish the human behind the techno-science.
The film follows the man himself around the world, giving talks on GNR, the Singularity, engineered negligible senescence, and exponential technological development, but also shows the emotional forces that drive him, especially his regard for his father, whose death at a relatively young age obviously had a very profound and lasting effect.
There's a critical element as well, with various luminaries of this most obscure but profound field discussing his ideas. Thoroughly enjoyable, and a neat introduction to his views.
