Review of For All Mankind (1989) by Markus I — 03 Nov 2009
Having seen a number of Apolllo-documentaries before I did not expect to be moved in any way by For All Mankind, but it ended up completely blowing me away. The film finds a way of being surprising and fresh even to space-junkie like me. This is to a large part due to the tone of the documentary, which is less factual and more emotional. Constructed purely of NASA-footage from the Apollo-missions and narrated only by the astronauts themselves with authentic radio-chatter cut in between the experience is extremely cinematic.
It is hard to give this piece enough praise, and it really has to be seen to be understood. A full five stars!
