Review of Toy Soldiers (1991) by Dave H — 30 Jun 2013
Dumb, earnest, disposable fun. Most boys probably day dreamed about saving their school after bad-guys take everyone there hostage. I know I did. This movie taps those day-dreams, but not especially well.
For starters, there's no damn girls to show off to. Nothing particularly clever about the plot, but it's performed with gusto and cheese, especially by a buff young Samwise Gamgee in cut-off t-shirts and Marty McFly Nikes.
Sheldon Cooper's nemesis does his usual sulky bit, and Lou Gossett Jr coasts but Denholm Elliot is typically awesome. Great location to film in, but pure cheese and cornball mostly. It's a 90s movie, but it feels at least half a decade dated.
