Review of Toy Soldiers (1991) by Conor K — 21 Apr 2014
I unapologetically love this flick.
Yes, it has flaws. yes, it's derivative (another one of those "die hard in a..." action thrillers). yes, it has moments of complete unbelievability.
None of that matters to me.
I simply love it.
23 years ago (almost to the day, as I write this), it captured my imagination and has ever since held me in its thrall.
There's a lot of fine actors on board - louis gusset, jr., will wheaton and andrew divoff among them - but it's sean astin that steals the show. it's my personal favorite of the things he's done - and that's saying something, considering the awesomeness of his filmography.
A tragically underrated and often forgotten flick, "toy soldiers" will always be a part of my collection. you should check it out to see if it deserves a spot in yours.
