Review of Towelhead (2008) by Jonathan F — 12 Nov 2008
Well-acted, but I was a bit puzzled by some of the directorial choices. Much of the delicate material was hammered home ad nauseum, to the point that I just felt alienated and awkward. That may have been the point, but it's possible to convey awkwardness without the audience themselves feeling awkward.
In patches, this movie stopped being insightful and just gave me the creeps, particularly with its thesis that all men can't control themselves when presented with a beautiful, virginal young girl.
I wasn't buying it.
