Review of Room at the Top (1958) by Jason B — 13 Nov 2012
Not great again Iâ??m afraid in my trundle through the BFI British films top 100. The revelations of â??The Lady Vanishesâ?? and â??â?¦Cornel Blimpâ?? seem along time ago. This is a late 50â??s relationship driven drama.
Supposedly the first time sex and adult relationships were treated seriously in British film. This is true (no fade to black, comedy music and seaside postcard references here) but just because something is the first, doesnâ??t mean it is the best.
Films like Closer, Close My Eyes and 9 Songs do it better and are not on the list.
