Review of Towelhead (2008) by Robbie W — 04 Jul 2009
This, on the surface, is one of those movies you are likely to eighter love or hate. In reality it's role isn't to be loved or to entertain, it is to make us question things and to open a dialouge about things that may be difficult for many to confront.
It is not without flaws as a film but it certainly benefits from good performers. Summer Bishil is great as the lead and I really liked Peter Macdissi ever since Six Feet Under, Speaking of which it is clearly made by a good filmmaker in Alan Ball who wrote American Beauty and created Six Feet Under.
Also enough can't be said about Aaron Eckhart who bravely takes on the role he does, I feel many actors would rather not take on a role like this. The rest of the cast is good as well. It certainly isn't for everyone and, again, isn't entertaining in the sense filmgoers are used to but it works well at achieving what it strived for.
