Review of Touch of Evil (1958) by Tomas T — 27 Jan 2008
This movies did not grab me immidiately, I had trouble with the typical fast paced and often yelling style dialogue so typical to B&W movies. But once past that, this movie really starts to shine, the athmosphere was truely unique. In fact the shadow play of this B&W movie was so good that it rivals in my mind some of the best noir CGI made movies made today.
Once past the eye candy comes the acting, which was to put bluntly, terrific. It seems that not only O.Welles had a unique way of directing movies, he was also a very good actor. His evil corrupt cop role was the best I have seen todate. Also other actors were really convincing, the actor doing the Vargas role did also an memorable one.
One thing is for sure, if you're an action junkie this movie is not for you. But if you're looking for a unique cinematic experience and are not afraid of trying something "new", you should definitely pick up the Touch Of Evil.
