Review of Touch of Evil (1958) by Myles H — 06 Feb 2009
Many say "Citizen Kane" was his magnum opus - and I've actually gotten into college classroom fist fights over this, lol. THIS film is the real gem. Forget that Charlton Heston is wearing heavy duty make-up trying to appear hispanic, and just sink into the thick noir and genius camera work. Obviously inspired quite a lot of Frank Miller's "Sin City".
BTW, "Apocalypse Now" trumps "Godfather 1 & 2" and "Fitzcarraldo" is Herzog's best. I was in A LOT of college classroom fist fights, obviously.
Professors are a scrappy bunch.
