Review of Torn Curtain (1966) by Pascale L — 05 Jun 2007
One of Hitchcock's last four films. As Hollywood moved into a new era of filmmaking, Hitch was losing favour with general audiences. Not generally regarded as one of his stronger works. That said, I seem to find more favour with those works that aren't regarded well, for whatever reason.
I thought the story stood up better than many of his "stronger" works. Julie Andrews is a little annoying at times tho. Perhaps not as suspenseful as people would have expected, but it has the obligatory moments; the bus sequence, for instance, ranks up there with most Hitchcock suspense.
The bit role of Countess Kuchinska is moving. The Macguffin is perfect. If you're a Hitch fan, recommended.
