I don't understand why this movie is so derided. Paul Newman is supposed to be somewhat of an asshole antihero and he warms up as the film goes on. Hitchcock's visual flair and sense of suspense remains in good form; in point of fact, this movie is quite a bit more suspenseful than Marnie.

One can only imagine what Herrmann's music might have added, but the music here is not distracting as others claim nor the acting wooden as is commonly asserted. Is it an instant classic like Vertigo or Rebecca? No, but it is a solid political thriller with some great sequences and beautiful shots.
