Review of Topsy-Turvy (1999) by John S — 06 Jul 2009
The movie starts off a bit slow-paced, but immediately picks up to become a terrific vision of the creation of this now famous stage play. i'll admit I am not a huge fan of gilbert and sullivan, but the movie made it enjoyable.
jim broadbent is forcefully commanding in his amazing role, and the rest of the film is scattered with equally strong, smaller performances. the plot takes its time, with long, revealing scenes to create the particular mood, and it works so wonderfully to create a wholly believable and exciting world.
