Review of Tomb Raider (2018) by Jluis_001 — 27 Mar 2018
I suppose that if there are so many so called "action heroes" in which the story is the least important thing, then action heroines should also deserve their place under the spotlight.
Tomb Raider was never a videogame that caught my attention and the movies starring Angelina Jolie never interested me, I'm 100% sure that I never saw them again after the first time.
Now with this reboot starring Oscar winner Alicia Vikander, the studio comes to offer another generic, simplistic and barely entertaining enough story.
We have to say things as they are, the film offers a ridiculous story that is only meant for visual entertainment. There's nothing wrong with that, obviously the movie put its bet on that and it offers just that. It doesn't deceive you, if you expected some kind of narrative depth, you deceived yourself.
Vikander certainly committed to the role, if the hope of the studio is to get a new franchise at least it's clear they have a willing protagonist.
From the rest of the cast there's nothing to say, no one stands out, they're just there to support her.
Good visual effects, well done but brutally implausible sequences accompanied by a completely forgettable score by Junkie XL.
This is a movie that any action actor would have signed at any time, there is no more, it's just entertainment under the most basic class.
