Review of To Rome with Love (2012) by Sean Michael S — 03 Sep 2013
I'm sorry but if you dislike this film, I feel sorry for your disability to enjoy life. The farcical Fellini-esque romp through Rome is not as poignant or meaningful as any of Woody's other works, but it is one of his most comical films of the last few years.
Phenomenal acting all across the board creates a fast and fun experience. Though the cinematography is minimalist at best and fails to capture the best of Rome, "To Rome with Love" is exactly what it's title and story suggests; a simple love story to a beautiful place that has inspired some absolutely charming stories from our favorite insecure genius.
10 out of 10 for being exactly what I expected, desired, and needed. To those walking in to see this film expecting "Annie Hall" or "Casablanca", they should get a brain scan and learn to stop being such over-analyzing tight-shirts.
The fact my fellow critics reviewed Katy Perry's new film as well as "Magic Mike" higher than this lovely comedy slightly breaks my heart. So do yourself a favor... open your mind and your heart.
.. let in a little Rome... and I'm sure you will enjoy "To Rome with Love" as much as I did.
