Review of To Return (1982) by Erika B — 12 May 2009
It's really hard to describe this movie because on first glance of the synopsis, it sounds like a horror movie. But this is a ghost movie that is touching and I greatly admired all of its thoughts and musings on death and how different people react to death. At first it starts out oddly and on weird notes but suddenly you're sucked into this black comedy and you're left with tears by the end. The scenes where Penelope Cruz meets her mother are devastating. The entire cast is amazing so I'm surprised that only she got most of the attention. I kinda wished though it went further in the ending of...just ending.
Very well-written and directed dramedy about death and the women affected by it.
