Review of How Do You Know (2010) by Erika B — 04 May 2011
OK, so it won't be winning any big awards, but I must admit, 'How Do You Know' was more entertaining than I thought it would be. I almost didn't rent it, but there was nothing in my Netflix queue, and I needed a movie.
I'm starting to think it's better to go into a movie with low expectations, because it can only go up from there. It's truly a chick-flick, though, unless you're a guy with a thing for Reese Witherspoon playing a washed-up softball player.
..then you're in luck. Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd are great in their roles, but Reese, in my opinion, falls a bit short. If Jack Nicholson wasn't the actor playing the role of Rudd's father Charles, the part would have been a disaster, as the character was so poorly developed.
Only Jack could work the magic needed to bring Charles to life, though I'm still not clear as to how I was meant to feel about him. There's flaws, but touching moments as well. A rentable flick for a rainly Sunday.
