If this film were in English I'd have given it 5 stars. Unfortunately I just had to concentrate a little too hard on reading subtitles than I would like. But let that not take away too much from the fact this is a brilliant film.
Arguably the best role Penelope Cruz has ever played, she utterly brilliant and perfectly gorgeous through out. She plays a working Mum close to poverty who has some rather extreme situations to deal with.
It's all about family and friendships and, notably lacking in male characters, none the poorer for it.
