Review of To Catch a Thief (1955) by Andrew B — 02 Jul 2010
This is actually one of my favorite Hitchcock films. It is not in the vein of most Hitchcock films, in that it isn't all about serious suspense. There is suspense and mystrey, but this film is more playful and fun than other Hitchcock films.
The chemistry between Grace Kelly and Cary Grant is undeniable, and this makes To Catch A Thief one of the funnest romantic mystery capers around. Set in the French Riviera, it is also among the most beautiful looking films ever made.
While some people tend to call this film "Hitchcock light", because it isn't as serious as his other films, personally I consider it among his very best.
