Review of Titus (1999) by Jim D — 24 Jul 2007
It tries to do what Baz Luhrman did to R&J, only in a more academic, and less pop cultured way. Perhaps it's because I'm less familiar with the play itself, but I didn't find it nearly as effective, because while Luhrman's over-the-top portrayal works for him, Taymor's attempts fall flat into boredom with long drawn out scenes that don't add to the meaning or the feeling.
