Review of Tideland (2005) by Nicole S — 01 Oct 2008
A wonderful movie... this is one of Gilliam's best and I think it is perfectly tuned to his skills at keeping to a childlike perspective. This movie most likely would have been done horribly and offensively in the hands of anyone else.
Though the themes are of a sensitve manner, never is the film shifted from the child protagonist's view. Everything is seen through the distortion and displacement of a child. Brilliant, it's so nice to see Gilliam still doing wonderfully challenging movies and can get his vision across without all the CGI and studio interference (hmmppph, such as "The Brothers Grimm".
