Review of Thunderheart (1992) by Tero H — 07 Dec 2008
One of my favorite movies, this detective-story and thriller is excellent. Val Kilmer and Graham Greene are great actors and all the actors make this movie more than watchable as well.
Based on actual reservation occurrences, the plight of the American Native people is shown to the viewer, and despite of the dark tones in this movie, the humor, the jokes make it easier and at some points actually fun to watch. Raymond Levoi, or "Little Weasel"/"Washington Redskin", finds his assignment rather surprising which involves the Wounded Knee and his identity revealed to him by the local reservation medicine-man, superbly played by Chief Ted Thin Elk.
The film is serious and brings the general people's attention to the Native American world in the United States. I found it fun and interesting, a cool movie with a mystic twist when Ray "Little Weasel" discovers his Indian ancestry.
I only have a VHS tv-recording of this film, so when the film comes out on blu-ray/high-definition, I will definitely buy it. Impressive story, and the scenery and characters are equally impressive.
