Review of Thunderheart (1992) by Lee B — 23 Jun 2010
"Thunderheart" seems to hit all of the right notes as this is one of Kilmer's better performances. Despite the beautiful cinematography and well designed story, something about the pacing seems a bit tedious and the story feels tied up too quickly and this leaves it unresolved at the end.
The film also tends to lean too much on the crutch of Native American mysticism to solve its problems, and while it would work if used sparingly- the constant strategy grows quickly stale. "Thunderheart" is honest though about the conditions of Native Americans' living conditions and it did so without becoming too preachy making it a decent political thriller and DVR pick.
