Review of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974) by Dave F — 17 Jun 2007
I'm a self-confessed Jeff Bridges fan. I apologise. However, this is a FABULOUS film. Not my usual genre, so it must be good to have captured my attention. I caught it late one night; it was the unusual camera work that actually caught my attention, not to mention the surreal nature of the opening scenes, one of which sees Eastwood giving a sermon as a priest, only to be chased across a corn field whilst being shot at! Now .
. that was a long sentence! I suppose the theme is friendship: two drifters who don't fit in are a perfect mismatch for each other. They develop a brotherly love, which does them well until they get embroiled in a bank robbery.
Cue the comedy ice-cream vans and Bridge's moment in drag! The ending is one of the most unpredicatable and shocking. Just when you think they'll be friends for life .... well, you'll have to watch it.
I had a tear in my eye.
