Review of Thunderbirds (2004) by Lindsay Elizabeth M — 23 Jan 2008
My next movie review came after a few weeks of settling back into the school scene, but very well. This movie was one of the movies I saw during my 'sick day', and despite the presence of Vanessa Anne-Hudgens (yes, she was in this movie, damn), the movie was nothing short of fabulous. Just like the Incredibles, Thunderbirds tell the story of a family who have the word 'superheroes' as their occupation. But they aren't exactly like superheroes, because the only thing super about them are the vehicles they use to help save the world; huge planes that can go anywhere in the world.
Bill Paxton is Jeff Tracy, the leader of the group, while Sophia Myles is Lady Penelope, a female-version of James Bond all decked in pink all throughout the movie. Ben Kingsley was absolutely wonderful as the evil Hood, and later in the movie we find out his connection to Vanessa (poor Ben).
The special effects were fantastic, and I couldn't help but wish that I had an asskicking superhero family (along with four older brothers). There was never a dull moment, because if you weren't holding your breath in anticipation for the next scene, you were ROTFLYAO (for the ignorant, R-olling O-n T-he F-loor L-aughing Y-our A-ss O-ut).
With all that this movie has to offer, I give it a well-deserved (see number of stars).
