Review of Thunderbirds (2004) by James S — 18 Oct 2010
A blast from the past, definitely. For those who are old enough, set the way-back machine to the '60's for a marionette show called "The Thunderbirds" of an international rescue family.
That show is the basis of this movie. It was a show I adored as a child, so seeing the hommage paid to the show in this movie was fun, indeed. Yes, it is live action, yes, the characters are cartoonish and unbelievable, yes the show is from a kid's point of view so the child knows everything.
Go beyond that, and director Jonathan Frakes does a fantastic job not changing the characters or the ships. Throw in some suggestive humor for adults and a good cast that evidently had a blast making the movie, and you get a fun trip down memory lane.
Enjoyable.
