Review of Throne of Blood (1957) by Alan J — 15 Sep 2007
Throne Of Blood follows the template set by Mizoguchi's Ugetsu by filling jidai-geki characters with a decidely modern psychology. Although loose in it's relation to Shakespeare's finest play, it retains the important central theme of honour and ambition successfully and features a fine lead performance from Mifune.
However, it doesn't sit quite right at times for some reason, so misses out on being a Kurosawa classic alongside Ikiru or Seven Samurai.
