Review of Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973) by Owen O — 01 Sep 2008
Inaccurately classified as cheap exploitation, Thriller is an artsy Swedish revenge story told in gloomy, laconic Scandinavian style. None of the sex is titillating, nor is the violence gratuitous; it merely follows as the natural explosive expression of the protagonist's lifelong suffering.
(There are, however, exquisite slow motion shotgun murders.) Minimalist approach to narrative lends each scene focus and fascination, and it's too bad the only reason people seem to watch this movie is because of its influence on Tarantino.
Recommended.
