Review of Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973) by Roy C — 15 Sep 2010
It's easy to see why this movie made a strong impression on Quentin Tarantino. While its subject matter and plot (not to mention clips of X-rated porn) doom it as grindhouse schlock, it is actually quite beautiful otherwise.
There is something stoic about the manner of revenge here - almost as if the main character becomes a single-minded angel of death. The atmosphere is bleak and minimal, yet somehow warm. Although it is not a masterwork, there is clearly loving attention to detail in much of the shooting.
