Review of Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973) by Dan B — 30 Aug 2011
Head on collision between arthouse and exploitation (the director previously worked with Bergman) that results in a heady mixture of nudity, random hardcore insertions, ludicrous explosions / gun shots and one moment of gruesomely graphic violence; and yet it's all photographed with surprising style, occasional beauty and, yes, dammit, lyricism.
The generous star rating is relative to others of its genre (and for its influence), but it would certainly sit well in a triple bill with Last House on the Left (more Bergman!) and I Spit on Your Grave (no Bergman).
