Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Giorgos K — 04 Mar 2018
"Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" is not as much about what its premise suggests at first glance, as is about the vanity & pointlessness of certain actions.
McDormand, Harrelson & Rockwell deliver some powerful, brilliant performances in this unconventional drama written & directed by Martin McDonagh.
The film revolves around two opposing driving forces that pit characters against each other. Chief Willoughby & his illness act like teachers preaching to people how they should behave & what to change in order to transform into the best version of themselves they can be. An idealistic, uphill battle against the other driving force, the phrase "Anger begets greater anger" which seems to win over its opponent for the majority of the film.
Every action in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" has a reaction from another character & almost all reactions are of the negative side. The message of the film is clear. Only when we abolish our anger & replace it with love, we can start our healing process.
