Review of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) by Ginak — 22 Nov 2017
I would give this film the highest rating for the performances alone, but the rest of the film is also excellent – the plot, the direction, etc. The “heart” of the film – what keeps things moving and the audience interested – is the inspired performance of Frances McDormand as Mildred Hayes.
McDormand makes you feel the main character’s pain, sadness, and frustration at every turn in the plot. But I am not going to give any details about the story since part of the pleasure of this film is watching events unfold and discovering why Hayes is the person she is when you first meet her.
I have seen less than a half dozen exceptional films this year so far, and this is definitely one of them.
