Review of Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967) by Peter S — 13 Jan 2017
Before I watched this film, I despised Mary Tyler Moore as an actress and a person after watching her in ordinary people (1980). I still hate that movie, but now I like Mary Tyler Moore a lot better. This is the most delightful musical of the 20th century, its only competition are other Julie Andrews and Judy Garland films.
Julie Andrews is delightful as always, Mary Tyler Moore is perfectly cast, the other cast members are excellent, and has George Roy Hill ever made a truly bad film? I don't think so. But the best thing about this film, like most musicals, is the music and dancing.
It's one hit after another and it's absolutely delightful. Oh yeah, and since it's an older musical, they have an overture before anything actually happens and an enter'acte, which is very rare for movie musicals to have today.
This is definitely a must see, an extremely underrated Julie Andrews, movie musical masterpiece!
