Review of This Sporting Life (1963) by Codie E — 08 Apr 2009
There are some times when a film almost feels taylor made for you, and it is magical when you find or finally watch those films. And it makes it all the more impressive knowing there was 25 between the film being made and my birth.
The nortern soul of the film, the working class setting, the rugby on the field and a man's struggle for identity and his attempts at finding the right relationships with the right people; particularly his pursuit of Rachel Roberts and the desire to have what he probably can't have.
Harris is reminiscent of Marlon Brando's Terry Malloy, a man whose brutality is only match by his sensitivity.
