Review of This Is England (2007) by Noah R — 13 Feb 2009
Netflix likes to state that this movie is one of the few to delve into the side of England and it's modern history...while I'm pretty sure I've seen plenty of dark, disturbing English films, I will say that this one makes a gritty, hard core statement.
An indie film down to the bare skull (pun intended), Shaun's transition into the skin-head, nationalist culture prominent in the early 80s and 90s truly draws you into the life of unrest in England following the Falkland wars to understand a common dilemma lacking in most of American history.
A beautiful soundtrack to back it -this haunting film is worth watching.
