Review of This Gun for Hire (1942) by Mark D — 28 Aug 2010
Perfectly paced adaption of a story by Graham Greene which made Alan Ladd a star. Co-star Veronca Lake is wry and sexy but the show belongs to Ladd, whose morally shifty hitman makes the film one of the best early film noirs.
Frank Tuttleâ??s direction excelles as does the lighting and the supporting cast, particularly Laird Cregar as the slimy, corpulent double-crosser.
