Review of This Gun for Hire (1942) by Steve W — 18 Apr 2016
Terrific short punchy film noir, Alan Ladd's debut, although mysteriously it's Robert Preston who gets the top billing alongside Veronica Lake. The (Graham Greene) plot is all blackmail and double-cross, and really an excuse for several set-pieces on trains, nightclubs and factory yards.
The wonderful Laird Cregar is the snivelling British heavy and it's all done and dusted in less than eighty minutes.
