Review of Thief (1981) by Grover S — 01 Aug 2010
A solid film detailing the life of a pro thief (James Caan) and the changes his career encounters once an individual (Robert Prosky) with a lot of power gets him interested in one last final score. While undoubtedly formulaic to a degree and failing to give more color to some important supporting characters (Belushi's and Nelson's, especially), the film succeeds in large part due to James Caan's convincing performance as a dangerous man who is very good at what he does.
Although this doesn't really come close to matching the heist masterpiece that is Michael Mann's "Heat", it's still a well-rounded film concerning these types of people and how once you're in, you can never get out.
