Review of They Were Expendable (1945) by Justin G — 27 May 2007
The most underrated WW2 film of all-time! Expendable follows the lives of American PT boat crews after the attack on Pearl Harbor and the subsequent battles in the Phillipines. Based on real life accounts, this film avoids every war-flick cliche.
Ford directs with heart and the results are moving. Wayne and Montgomery(a real life U.S.N.R. Commander)are amazing in their portrayals of Brickely and Ryan. Give this film the time it deserves.
