A typical John Carpenter film (he does some totally atmospheric stuff... Assault On Precinct 13, Escape From New York/LA, The Fog and the awesome Big Trouble In Little China. There's been a number of other films/tv shows on this theme (Wild Palms in particular) but this is simple b-movie stylee but not b-movie standard.
Love the ending which leaves you to guess what happens (the fact some naked chick is boffing an alien is irrelivant!).
