Review of They Live (1988) by Karin R — 31 Jul 2015
First saw this as a kid, and I had wanted to rewatch it for a while now, so with the passing of Roddy Piper I finally did. I enjoy this film which was a commentary against "Reaganomics" and consumerism, but it plays well as a sci-fi/horror/action film as well.
There's some great lines, and a long excellent fight scene, and it moves along really well. I also listed occasionally to the commentary with Roddy Piper and John Carpenter in which they tell a lot of behind the scenes stories and making the film, and also Piper tells some from his WWF days.
Piper finishes the commentary with this line which obviously has more significance now: "may you be a half hour in heaven before the Devil knows you're dead." Give this a watch!
