Review of They Live (1988) by Trevor R — 25 Jun 2011
What another great B-movie from John Carpenter! They Live shows the power of greed in our culture through alien beings which have taken over the world. Roddy Piper is pretty great in the flick even though this is his first major film.
He also delivers one of the funniest lines I've ever heard. Keith David is as good as ever too. The entire concept of the film is kind of awesome. A group of resistance fighters develop sunglasses that allow the wearer to see past the aliens' disguises as well as the subliminal messages spread throughout the city.
The aliens themselves are pretty creepy looking and evoke classic Carpenter through and through. There is also a pretty awesome and hilarious fight scene in the film between two characters. If you dig 80s movies, B-movies, or Carpenter movies in general check this one out!
