Review of They Live (1988) by Russell F — 08 Nov 2011
The concept may be better than the execution; however, John Carpenter's They Live is the ultimate Hollywood B-movie. The film earned cult status among film fans, thanks in large part to possibly the greatest fight scene ever witnessed on screen.
A paranoid thriller that tries to make sense of eighties greed, They Live stars WWF legend Roddy Piper as he stumbles upon a conspiracy concerning aliens who have hypnotized the populace through subliminal messages transmitted through the media.
They Live is complete with state-of-the-art effects and perhaps some of the most undervalued screenwriting of the eighties. "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum!" Indulge yourself with this ultimate guilty pleasure; it's so bad it's good!
