Sometimes absurdly hilarious, sometimes just absurd, "They Came Together" has the feeling of an experiment by a group of smart, funny people who were working on a project they all cared about.
What ultimately undermines the movie is a wrong-headed framing device that tries to explain away the oddest elements of the plot, instead of trusting that the audience was there to see a skewed comedy.
