Colin Firth was amazing, as well as Helen Hunt. I love them both. The casting of Broderick and Midler wasn't so great, though, Midler even less. I think the only movie I've ever liked her in was that Disney one, years ago.
The reasoning for the husband leaving the wife was also extremely unclear, and left at a cliff hanger, although not so much since it didn't seem so important to Hunt anyway.
