Review of The Year My Parents Went on Vacation (2006) by Jeff A — 31 Jul 2008
Brazil's official entry for the 2007 Academy Awards, this is a touching and deliberately paced story of a young boy whose leftist parents leave him behind when they go on the run into political exile.
Michel Joelsas, the young lead actor who plays Maura, gives such a terrific performance. His character carries the film as we watch the turbulent political climate in 1970 Sao Paulo against the backdrop of that year's triumphant World Cup match.
