Review of The Wrestler (2008) by Rick Q — 06 Apr 2012
This film is all about Mickey Rourke's performance, although it is quite "Rocky Balboa". Nice work all around in a very heartfelt performance. I also loved Marisa Tomei's character who, as an older stripper working to survive is the perfect compliment character to Rourke's has-been Wrestler, Randy.
She, pretty damn bravely, performs as an honest, true to God stripper, titties open for all to see. In the end the message here is to be true to who you are, and sometimes mere survival isn't worth it.
Its a very romantic ideology that looks great on film, but may not be so appealing in real life.
