Review of The World of Suzie Wong (1960) by Catie Liz M — 29 Jan 2008
Despite a title that calls to mind a cut-rate off-the-rack cheongsam collection, the film boldly deals with (at the time) some rather contentious issues. Bill Holden, having downshifted to pursue his muse in Hong Kong, falls for an unwed Chinese mother/prostitute.
While any hint of slatternliness is absent, Holden's actions still go against the grain in a recognizably modern fashion. Also has a time capsule quality.
