Review of The Woman (2011) by Nathan M — 13 Feb 2012
The Woman is quite a disturbing movie with a lot of violence. I was surprised to see Pollyanna McIntosh play the role of the woman. Her first and last movie I saw was Exam and she looked way different there. I guess I could say the 'make-up' (or dirt and mud) here was well done.
The story was obscene and impacting. Overall I didn't like it that much, because the incestuous family part and the mentally disturbed son were quite disturbing. On top of that there is that child who had anophthalmia and was raised with the dogs. I've seen horror movies with gore and all, but this was kind of different. I guess in a way I felt somewhat the same way when I was watching Antichrist.
The Woman didn't scare me, but it made me feel a little uneasy and awkward at times. I've read that this is a sequel to the film 'Offspring". I haven't seen that one, but I've also read you don't have to watch it to understand this. Also I'm not very fond of the ending, because it left me with questions about it. I guess the director wants us to have our own interpretations.
