Review of The Woman (2011) by Michael L — 29 Jun 2013
With THE WOMAN, Bloody Disgusting has distributed a true work of art exploring misogyny in contemporary middle-class, "clean", pure, white culture. I expected a sleezy exploitation film, but Lucky McKee has crafted a true work of art that fully sustains its vision until the ending which veers too easily towards exploitation and audience wish fulfillment that this smart film continuously avoids.
But that is a small complaint. THE WOMAN is mesmerizing, shameful, haunting, and quite extraordinary. So glad to see a true indie horror like this can find theatrical distribution. Please try to see it on the big screen.
Only the theater screen can so beautifully blaze through to our souls the way THE WOMAN deserves. Bravo to everyone involved in this film, especially the extraordinary Pollyanna McIntosh as THE WOMAN.
