Review of The Wizard (1989) by Kayla K — 22 Jun 2008
This is one of the movies Jess and I can banter about over and over.
I've always kind of liked this movie for its quirky family TV appeal and Jess abhors it for it's "travesties" ...aka gaming inconsistencies.
And... just so I can stop thinking about it... Fred Savage is still WAY adorable as a grown up.
The director and Fred mentioned before the movie that they thought it was a joke at first that the Drafthouse wanted to show it. But, they were swayed by Zack and Jack's enthusiasm.
The film, like everything, looks so much better than my VHS.
I love kids who are acting like adults and the entire Reno segment of the movie cracks me up in a very Joe Dante way.
And In my head, whenever I here the word "California" I hear Jimmy's voice.
The side story between Christian Slater and the dad is what makes me love this movie (more than any of the video game stuff). Chritian Slater is trying so hard to reconnect with his dad, and is always being shut down. It's tragic.
It still creeps me out that they take Haley home with them.
